Dear Students,

Each assignment you will explore this semester will help you enhance you critical thinking skills, writing skills, and learn more about a topic you have always wanted to explore. The Rhetorical Analysis is done through close readings and employs the principles of rhetoric to examine the interactions between a text, an author, and an audience. The Source Based Essay continues in the theme of the rhetorical analysis, but it prepares you for the research paper by asking you to research four articles on your topic and perform a rhetorical analysis on them. You will also learn how to properly cite your sources. The Inquiry Based Essay is the research paper and gives you the knowledge of how to investigate topics you are not fully familiar with. You will take your research knowledge you learned from the source-based essay and apply it to the inquiry-based essay; however, the inquiry-based essay will also allow you to take your research further with learning how to conduct an interview. You will also have a work cited page for this assignment as well. The Composition in Two Genres project gives you an opportunity to be creative but also gives you a chance to create a message for an audience of your choice and present it to them they way you have always imagined. The Theory of Writing essay follows in the same vein of creativity and self-expression, but it also evaluates how much you have learned through the previous assignments and allows you to discuss your own philosophy of writing, including the process you believe it entails. Lastly, your Portfolio showcases your work and illustrates how much you have grown throughout the semester.
